Client expectations and following advice

Client expectations relating to progress can vary massively. I get lots of referrals from Paul McKenna's office and some people can have absolutely crazy expectations in respect of not having to "do anything different" but expecting a longstanding "problem" to be resolved in an hour!

Many problems can and are sorted in a couple of sessions, when the client follows instructions and listens back to the original recording of the sessions! However everyone is different and as one of my mentors Frank Farrelly says "You'll never get 100%!"

Yes Nick

The 'magic wand' expectation is a common one, especially if people's understanding of hypnosis and what we do is based upon the kind of stage hypnosis PaulMcKenna used to do.

Years ago, when I had time to assist with the McKenna organised Richard Bandler NLP trainings, I had loads of referrals from McKenna. Very often these people would turn up, look at me and say 'when are you going to knock me out', or 'when are you going to put me under?'

I was tempted to keep a mallet in the filing cabinet for people who said such things...

Of course, very often hypnotherapy, especially NLP style hypnotherapy, can work very, very fast and I have sorted literally thousands of people's problems in one session. I know you have had the same experience.

But if someone has chronic depression, IBS, migraines, OCD, bruxism, bulimia and panic attacks around cockroaches then one session isn't going to be enough. Probably.

It would be great if someone could always cure anyone's problem in one session, but it would probably require one of us to be the messiah.
